An AI product teammate listens to users, the team and product data, finds what blocks people and proposes the fix. Here is how it differs from a chatbot or a coding agent.
A definition
An AI product teammate is an AI that does the research and first-draft work of a product team. It listens to users, the team and product data, finds what blocks people, explains why with evidence and proposes the fix. A person decides what ships. The word “teammate” matters. It is not a tool you open when you remember to. It sits in the same channels as the team, picks up work on its own and reports back.
Three kinds of signal
Users: interviews, support chats and feedback. Wirey runs interviews by voice or chat, introduces itself as an AI and asks for consent before it records. Team: the threads where people already discuss the product, like Slack or Teams channels, specs in Notion and issues in Linear. Data: funnels and session replays in product analytics such as PostHog. Each signal alone is easy to misread. A drop in a funnel says where, a quote says why, a team thread says what was already tried. A teammate connects them into one cause.
How it differs from a chatbot
A chatbot waits for a question and answers from what you paste in. A product teammate keeps context over time: every goal, interview, decision and fix stays in one map of the product, and answers come with their sources.
How it differs from a coding agent
A coding agent starts from a task a person wrote and turns it into code. A product teammate works one step earlier: it notices the problem, works out the cause and only then writes the change. The code is the last step, not the first. Both should go through the same review, checks and branch protection as any contributor.
What a good one should never do
Ship without a human yes. Merge its own pull requests. Read secrets or push to protected branches. Act on data you did not connect. With Wirey, access is read-only by default, every change is a pull request or a logged action, and you choose how much it can do on its own: Suggest, Draft or Do it.
