How AI personas can test a product flow before real users see it, where they are reliable, where they are not and how to compare them with real data.
What an AI persona is
An AI persona is an agent given a goal, a context and a set of habits, then asked to use your product: a busy founder on a phone, a first-time PM, an agency lead setting up four clients. It clicks through the real flow and reports where it struggled.
It is not a simulation of your market. It is a structured, repeatable walkthrough that never gets tired of signing up.
Where they are useful
Personas catch friction well: an action hidden behind a menu, a form that asks too much, a label that means nothing outside the team, a step that breaks on a small screen.
They are fast and cheap, so you can run them on every change, before a single real user sees it.
Where they fall short
Personas do not feel urgency, budget pressure or distrust. They will not tell you whether your price is right or whether the problem matters enough to pay for.
They also share the blind spots of the model behind them. Treat their findings as hypotheses, not verdicts.
Calibrate with real users
The useful habit is comparison. When AI personas get stuck at the same step where your funnel drops, you have two independent signals pointing at one cause. When they disagree, real users win and you learn which persona findings to trust.
Over time the comparison tells you which kinds of AI findings are reliable for your product.
How Wirey uses them
Wirey runs AI personas on every fix it drafts, shows before and after results next to the pull request and later compares them with real behavior in PostHog. Nothing ships until you approve.
